The default view mode check is not very nice, views could also be another view mode. I think there is actually a views property when rendering through that

I also still think that there should be a different easily-embeddable entity type should be used for such cases, block_content for example also has render caching disabled because it assumes it is rendered as a block.

Agree on the first one (but didn't see any property), somewhat on the second, but we needed something quickly :) Created issues to double check on things, but this subtle change has a huge UX impact.

Oh, didn't know about that. More or less the same approach, but I don't have support for a label (yet), need to look into that. Entity reference support coming soon too :)
