Overriding any Drupal path with Page manager in a few clicks

By default it's not possible to override existing paths with Page manager, the excellent module that is bundled in the CTools project. The Page manager existing pages module now allows you to do that. Technically, this module defines one abstract task and one content type plugin, so menu items can be overridden and the original page callback can be called through the content type plugin. This project comes with one default existing page, which is 'node', the default Drupal frontpage.

Ten years of work

It's around this time of the month that I started working ten years ago. My first job as a web developer started at XS4All, now called Evonet. Visiting the site brought me back immediately to those days, even more because that site is the last project I worked on back then and is still up now. Guess it isn't that badly written :)

Tag your website with Banksy

I haven't come far in my search for Banksy and I didn't get any more clues after seeing Exit through the gift shop this week where to find him - actually, not even trying to find him, however, if you, yes you, Banksy, ever read this, just send me a mail, will you? Even a single dot will do.

Random results with Apache Solr and Drupal

The schema.xml that comes with the Drupal Apache Solr module doesn't define the random_* field compared to the default xml included in the apachesolr package. We needed that functionality for a project where we wanted to display 3 blocks which showed random results based on a couple of fields available in the node, in our case the author, title and a cck field. With 300k nodes, a random result was giving a nicer experience instead of seeing the same results coming back over and over.

The search for Banksy

Just got back from 3 days visiting Bristol, especially for the Banksy vs Bristol Museum exhibition. There is one room fully dedicated to his work, but the museum also gave him the freedom to alter pieces from the permanent collection. The effect is that you simply keep on searching every room for his work, very entertaining and sometimes extremely funny. More info on http://www.banksy.co.uk/, you still have time untill the 31st of august, definitely worth a visit!
